If you have kids or grandkids, enjoy watching animated films, or have breathed in the past year or so, you’ve probably seen the movie Frozen, featuring a brave young princess and her sister, Elsa, who has the power to freeze anything that’s in her way in a matter of seconds, including her whole kingdom. (If you have younger kids, you might have lost track at this point of how many times you’ve seen it!)
Crowns are not just for princesses like Elsa. There’s a different type of crown that’s used in dentistry, one that fixes broken teeth, weak teeth, or imperfections in your teeth that are visible.
CEREC Can Fix Your Problem Tooth or Missing Tooth in One Day
Although we don’t have magic powers that can transform your teeth in just a few seconds, like Elsa’s power to freeze things, we do have technology to help you get a crown put in in just one day and transform your smile in hours!
The secret to our one-day crown replacement is CEREC technology. CEREC, which stands for CEramic REConstruction, allows us to do same-day porcelain restorations so that in just one day, you can have your crown and wear it, too!
What Are Crowns?
A crown is a replacement for a tooth that is broken, cracked, chipped, weak, or has another major flaw that can be seen. The crown strengthens the remainder of a tooth or holds a broken tooth together. In the same way that a crown sits on top of a royal’s head, a dental crown goes right on top of your existing tooth.
Crowns can also cover an implant, or be placed over a discolored tooth or a tooth whose shape doesn’t match your other teeth. Crowns can also extend a tooth that’s too short.
What Is the CEREC Method for Crowns?
If you happen to be a busy person like most of us, your time is valuable. It might be hard for you to take off work several times, and for long periods at a time, to fix a dental problem.
Fast and Convenient
CEREC uses 3D images and advanced technology to quickly and accurately design, create, and fit your crown.
Using this technology, we’ll take a picture of your tooth and the inside of your mouth to create a digital model of the problem tooth. We’ll use this model to help design the crown, which is created by a machine and then examined and placed in your mouth by Dr. Benefield.
Because the process is so fast, we can simply rescan your tooth in the rare event that the crown isn’t as snug on your tooth as it needs to be.
Advantages over Traditional Crowns
The CEREC process has a lot of advantages over the traditional way of getting a crown. A traditional crown involves coming in to create impressions of your tooth or teeth, using those impressions to make a mold, sending the mold off to a lab, getting a temporary plastic crown to wear in the meantime, and then coming back weeks later after the crown is finished being made.
Sound time consuming? You bet.
With the CEREC method, you don’t have to keep coming back to the dentist. We’ll examine the faulty tooth that needs a crown, fit you for the crown, design it, and put it in in just one day!
You also don’t have to get a temporary crown in the meantime, which isn’t durable and can have problems like leaking. And because the impression of your teeth is digital, you don’t have to deal with being uncomfortable like you would getting a physical impression.
Because CEREC dental crowns are so quick, you can walk out of our office confident in your new smile! And since the crown blends in with the color and size of your other teeth, you don’t have to worry that your new tooth will stick out like a sore thumb.
Even though the process is fast, CEREC crowns are permanent. Think about how long you’ve had to deal with your problem tooth, or the embarrassment you’ve gone through because of it. Won’t it be nice to know that you have a long-term solution?
